Digital Zellij

Mensch-Maschine-Kooperation für traditionelles marokkanisches Handwerk

Gewinner Förderpreis 2024

Zellij ist das traditionelle marokkanische Handwerk des Schneidens und Zusammensetzens von Mosaikfliesen zu komplexen geometrischen Mustern. Aufgrund ihrer Abhängigkeit von mathematischen Eigenschaften sowie ihrer spirituellen und philosophischen Wurzeln in der Materialisierung von Abstraktion zeigen diese Muster eine starke Prädisposition für die Digitalisierung.

In dieser Masterarbeit wird untersucht, ob durch die Einführung parametrischer digitaler Fabrikationstechnologien neue Anwendungsfälle für Zellij geschaffen werden können. Das Ergebnis dieses Projekts ist eine greifbare Schnittstelle, die eine Diskussion über die Zukunft der Islamische Muster anregt und die Entwicklung hybrider Herstellungsprozesse ermöglicht - eine Kooperation zwischen Mensch und Maschine für das traditionelle marokkanische Handwerk.
