Field Trip 25 Copenhagen
Every year, the IAD organizes a 4-days career excursion for the 4th semester students at the end of the semester.
The goal of the excursion is to travel to a city in order to meet with local design agencies and discover a vibrant cultural scene, where we can widen our horizon and get insights into different fields. Together with the classmates and a lecturer of the IAD team, we visit agencies and museums, take part in guided tours or undertake other design-relevant activities still leaving time to discover the city on yourself.
This year the students travelled to the wonderful city of Copenhagen. This short text gives an insight into their activities and experiences.
On Monday afternoon, due to our large number of students, we split into two groups. One group visited @10studios (https://www.instagram.com/10_tons/) to explore their incredible sculptures, while the other group enjoyed a scenic bike ride around Copenhagen, discovering the city's many beautiful sites.
On Tuesday morning, we visited the Danish Architecture Centre (DAC) (https://www.linkedin.com/company/danisharchitecturecentre/), gaining valuable insights into Kvorning's work through a presentation from Arne Kvorning himself (https://www.linkedin.com/company/kvorningdesign/) and enjoying a guided tour of the DAC and its surroundings. Later that day, we were welcomed by Rosan Bosch Studio (https://www.linkedin.com/company/rosan-bosch-studio/) and learned about their innovative approaches to creating engaging learning environments.
On Wednesday, we visited the Copenhagen Institute for Futures Studies (https://www.linkedin.com/company/cphfutures/), learning about their methods for exploring and discussing future scenarios. Afterwards, we again divided into two smaller groups. One group went to UNOPS (https://www.linkedin.com/company/unops/) and learned about their atomic design approach, focusing on UI and UX design, while the other visited Design Systems International (https://www.linkedin.com/company/designsystemsinternational/) and delved into their projects at the intersection of design and technology.
he last day rounded off the field-trip with two museum visits to Copenhagen Contemporary and the Danish Design Museum with their interactive, immersive exhibitions inspiring the students before heading home.
Special thanks to Jürgen Späth and Johannes Reck for organizing and guiding the trip, and to everyone who generously shared their time and insights into their work and organizations.
