This module focusses on producing virtual experiences and current technical aspects of virtual reality. We will design a virtual set and explore possibilities for new experiences. In virtual reality, anything is possible, and there is a large design spectrum between a totally artificial set and an accurate replication of the real world. The aim is to create an immersive story in which the user experiences and interacts with an alternate version of reality. We start with a real-world scene and introduce and experiment with subtle (or more radical) cracks, quirks and shifts. How does the user’s perception of the virtual world change? How can you provoke emotions and reactions? What is fake, what is real, and what’s in between? We thus will play with parameters such as size and scale, light, texture, color and sound.
